Tieline VIA

It’s time to reimagine remote broadcasting with the definitive remote codec of our generation. Tieline’s revolutionary new ViA portable codec sets a new standard in wireless remote broadcasting and will fundamentally change the way you perform live remotes.

Picture yourself or an announcer taking your codec to a remote site, powering it up and tapping a single button on a color touchscreen to get connected – just like making a phone call. Wouldn’t it be great if remotes were that simple? Well now they are – with ViA.

Our mission is to empower you with the technology to go live where no broadcaster has been before, and make it simpler. To achieve this, ViA delivers more IP choices and backup options than ever before. Connect using dual LAN Ethernet ports, or 2 USB modems, or use the on-board Wi-Fi module to connect over Wi-Fi. Insert an optional POTS or ISDN module and the codec is instantly transformed to connect over alternative network transports. This means you can configure primary and backup connections over different network transports as required, or use them as your IFB circuit.

Tieline Play-By-Play Package 2 Figure 1With Tieline’s proprietary Fuse-IP data aggregation technology you can bond multiple IP interfaces, including options like:

• 2 USB modems, or
• Built-in Wi-Fi, or
• Dual Ethernet LAN Ports, or
• Internal LTE cellular module.

Imagine the peace of mind knowing you can bond 2 cellular data links from different Telcos and let Tieline’s Fuse-IP technology automatically manage the data capability of each link! Tieline understands flexibility is paramount for remotes, so you can even bond a USB modem with a Wi-Fi connection, or bond Ethernet connections. ViA also includes Tieline’s SmartStream PLUS dual redundant streaming software, which has set the benchmark for redundant IP streaming over the public internet. Some manufacturers charge thousands of dollars for IP management software like SmartStream PLUS as an optional extra, however Tieline believes high performance and rock-solid reliability is an essential part of each and every broadcast, so you get it for FREE!

Main Features:

Stream, Record, Play:
Stream live audio and view and manage recordings, create playlists of local and imported files, then control playback routing to encoders and analog and digital outputs. Produce & record your own broadcast quality podcasts to removable media.

Flexible Connections:
ViA delivers all the flexible transport options you would expect from a professional codec. Select wired or wireless IP options, or choose to connect over ISDN or POTS.

Power on the Go!:
ViA comes with a rechargeable Lithium-ion smart battery which delivers superior performance with up-to 6 ½ hours* of broadcast time. Extend battery performance with features such as configurable screen sleep time-out, screen brightness controls, plus automatic low battery power saving measures.

Wi-Fi Remotes on the Go:
Built-in Wi-Fi and web browser connectivity expands your connection options from access points in hotels, fast food chains, or even a smartphone’s Wi-Fi hotspot. Use the touch screen to add Wi-Fi access points in seconds and stream program audio or your IFB circuit. Plus it’s fully compatible with SmartStream PLUS and Fuse-IP. That’s true flexibility.

Dual Cellular USB Modems:
ViA supports a variety of pre-tested cellular USB modems out of the box. Simply insert a modem into a USB port and you’re ready to go live in seconds! Bond data from multiple modems with Fuse-IP, or use two modems with SmartStream PLUS for dual redundant streaming. Check our website for updates on supported modems.

Simplify use with Admin and Basic modes:
Restrict user access to complicated network settings and take the hassle out of broadcasting forever. An administrator can configure ‘Basic Mode’ to simplify operation and present a subset of menus suitable for non-technical users. Configure the codec to automatically power-up in basic mode, then tap a program to go live in seconds.

Network bonding with Fuse-IP:
Use our proprietary Fuse-IP bonding technology to aggregate data from multiple IP transports such as LANs, cellular modems or Wi-Fi, and increase connection bandwidth. This improves connectivity, quality and redundancy.

Tieline Gateway 4

Tieline Play-By-Play Package 2 Figure 2

The Gateway-4 is a powerful DSP-based 1RU IP codec designed for live remote broadcasting applications, as well as STL or SSL links. The Gateway-4 also includes support for AES67, ST 2110-30, AES3 and analog I/O as standard, and an optional WheatNet-IP card.

The Gateway-4 supersedes and replaces the popular Merlin and Genie STL audio codecs. It supports 4 full-duplex audio channels in 1RU to expand channel density by one when compared with these codecs. The Gateway-4 provides two stereo connections, or one stereo and two mono connections, or up to 4 mono full duplex connections. The Gateway-4 also supports multiple unicasting to up to 20 endpoints and multicasting. Customers with higher channel requirements will gravitate towards the Gateway-8/16 multi-channel codec.

For larger networks, the Gateway-4 is ideal for transmitter sites, remote trucks or rack-mounted remote kits. For affiliates and smaller stations it can be used to transport studio-to-studio links, or a stereo studio-to-transmitter link signal plus another stereo connection, or dual mono connections for remotes.

Audio Technica

We think this headset is one of the best bargains in broadcasting. But don't just take our word for it, here's what some of your fellow broadcasters are saying:

“Excellent sounding microphone, and good sealed-back headphones make this a great choice for a live broadcast situation. We use these for football, but these would be good for any radio situation.”

“Exactly what I needed for my use in (the) WHBU studio.”

“Clear sound, fairly light weight, and though the mic does pick up a bit of background noise, that's actually desirable at a sports broadcast…. Definitely recommended….”

The Audio-Technica BPHS1 broadcast headset is a rugged stereo headset created especially for on-air news and sports broadcasting, announcing and interviews. It offers natural, highly intelligible and focused vocal reproduction, closed-back circumaural (around-the-ear) ear cups to seal out background noise, and a high-output dynamic microphone mounted on a flexible gooseneck boom.

The headset's microphone has a cardioid polar pattern tailored for pickup of speech with maximum voice intelligibility over a wide range of frequencies. It is more sensitive to sound originating directly in front of the element, making it useful in reducing pickup of unwanted sounds. The flexible gooseneck boom swivels for easy positioning on either the right or left side.

Audio-Technica BPHS1 Broadcast Headset Features:
• Microphone features polar pattern and frequency response tailored for natural, highly intelligible vocal reproduction
• Closed-back circumaural ear cups help seal out crowd noise and other background distractions
• Neodymium magnets in microphone and headphones for high output level & detailed sound reproduction
• Rugged design with user-replaceable cable and ear pads
• Cardioid pickup pattern of the dynamic microphone rejects off-axis sounds
• Boom-mounted microphone can be positioned on the left or right side
• Adjustable cushioned headband and lightweight design for long-wearing comfort
• Cable termination: 3-pin XLRM-type connector for microphone 1/4" 3-conductor for headphones
